Silicon Valley Encore Initiative
People Everywhere Are Working for the Greater Good in the Second Half of Life

About the Initiative

The Silicon Valley Encore Initiative will help transform the valley into an encore community by creating multiple pathways for experienced adults to transition into encore careers – work that provides personal meaning, societal impact and continued income in the second half of life. With its rich pool of talent in the highly-educated boomer population and a growing need for human capital within the nonprofit community, Silicon Valley is an ideal place to introduce and advance encore careers.

This initiative will bring the encore career concept to Silicon Valley through two related strategies:
  • Silicon Valley Encore Community – preparing the ground and building momentum for creating a variety of encore career opportunities that benefit nonprofits, corporations, individuals and the community as a whole.
  • Encore Fellows Pilot – spearheading innovation by launching a new social purpose internship designed to help individuals transition from for-profit sector work into the nonprofit sector.

Sponsored by Civic Ventures and funded by the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, this local initiative will build on and inform Civic Ventures´ national efforts to elevate the encore career through thought leadership, institutional and policy change, constituency building, and innovation.
